Shirley Huang

I am an artist based in Toronto, Canada. In a family of 5 plus one turtle, I was the youngest and had the opportunity of growing up on movies, anime, and Disney. I was able to learn and improve my art starting at a young age, with my siblings being a big inspiration. They got me into some of my favourite shows and were the cause of my love for art. My main mediums are digital art, coloured pencils, and acrylic paint but I have explored many other mediums.

I currently study as a Fine Arts student at the University of Waterloo with a digital art specialization in the ARBUS program. I also have a background in business and marketing. I studied for a year at the University of Western Ontario in their business program and worked in multiple marketing administration positions. 

 

I have never been that good at public speaking but I was always able to tell a story through my drawings. That was my way of telling stories. I always believed the idea that a picture was worth a thousand words. Just like how one person has a whole lifetime's worth of memories beneath the surface, one drawing can have a world of imagination behind it.​ That has been a big inspiration in why I created art, to tell a story, and create a background behind a character.​

No matter where I am, I can find inspiration in the things around me, I can get easily distracted looking at something and can find joy in the smallest things.
